The Best Laid Plans Review

The Best Laid Plans
By Sarah Mayberry

About the book:

Boundaries. The key to how corporate lawyer Alexandra Knight manages her busy life. However, lately all her precisely drawn lines are getting blurred. Blame it on her out-of-control biological clock that is ignoring her single status…and on Ethan Stone.

Because her sexy, no-strings colleague has posed an outrageous solution to her dilemma—he'll be her baby daddy. This from the guy who avoids all commitment? Okay, so they're attracted to each other. Really, really attracted. But crossing the line from coworker to co-parent with Ethan could ruin Alex for all other men. After all, when you've had the best…

My Review:

When The Best Laid Plans by Sarah Mayberry landed in my mailbox, I am convinced this book arrived at just the perfect time for me since I was out of books to read and review!  So when this book arrived, I quickly jumped within the pages.  I read this book in just a few days!  I always love reading books from Harlequin.  While I was not asked to review this book, I do want to share my thoughts!

We first meet Alexandra (Alex) Knight, she accidentally runs into her ex-boyfriend who happens to have a baby boy in his arms.  She acts nervous and shocked as she tries to say the simplest words to him.  We quickly learn why she’s thrown off course, she wanted a baby with her ex-boyfriend and he had always insisted he didn’t want a baby.  She spent 7 years with him and finally realized he wasn’t going to change.  Alex visits her doctor where she is told she has a small window to conceive a child, especially at her age of 38.

Then we meet Ethan Stone, her co-worker, friend, and racquetball partner.  They had always remained platonic friends, mainly because they were co-workers and because they both wanted different things.  Ethan is in plain terms a player!  He isn’t looking to settle down, he just wants to be single, unattached and never get married again.  Alex wants marriage, kids, family -- the whole package!

Ethan and Alex make plans to have a baby together, but before they do, they draw up a contract.  Being that they are lawyers, they come up with an agreement that they both agree upon before making the plans and appointments to get pregnant.  Through this process, they become closer as friends and quietly develop feelings for each other without letting each other know.  Through their journey we learn more about Alex as well as Ethan.  Alex meets Ethan’s family and they adore her.  We also learn why Ethan doesn’t want to get married.  He’s been married and went through a divorce 5 years before.  His ex-wife puts him through hell and this leaves Ethan devastated!

Ethan and Alex’s journey through their planning is emotional, real, and personal.  They are two people who want to make a baby together, without being in a relationship.  The feelings that they are experiencing feel so real.  Ethan and Alex face bumps and obstacles through their planning of making a baby.

Even if you aren’t a parent, you will enjoy this book.  This is a sweet, feel good, warms your heart, and enduring book from Harlequin!

The Best Laid Plans can be purchased online at Barnes and Noble, IndieBound, and Amazon.
